Recently we had the opportunity to work with a wonderful church who is very involved in homeless shelters, feeding programs for the hungry and rehabilitation for the street people. The ministry is so effective and we were honored and humbled to be a part of the feeding program for the day. I hope you enjoy the pictures and that God will touch your hearts and cause you to respond to give and to pray so we can help support this critical minister. "If you give a cup of cold water in MY name to one of the least of these, you have done it unto me.
Food is prepared in a tiny kitchen with a little 4 burner gas stove. Women who live at the women's shelter prepare the food. Then a team of people from the church load the containers of soup, hot tea and bread into vehicles and take it throughout the city.
Dedicated workers serve the many who come.
Every day, six days a week over 250 people are fed at three feeding stations around the city.
People start coming out from underground basements, under trees, from crawl spaces and various other places when they see the food is arriving. This cup of hot tea, bowl of hot soup and piece of bread is usually the only food they have for the day.
Many of these people are sick, have been beaten, spit on, and generally abused by the population and police. They are fearful and hopelessness reigns.
You can see the fatigue and hopelessness as you look at these pictures.
This woman has her world's possessions here under this little bush with her. She is wearing the only clothes she owns.
Can you imagine this jacket keeping this man warm in -25 degree weather? The church tries to provide coats, hats, gloves, socks and boots for those who need them. That is one way your giving can help.
This little lady needed help to get to the feeding station. These compassionate workers knew where to find her and went to help her.
This woman lives right here. In the summer she sleeps on top of the mattress. In the winter she sleeps under it to keep warm. She hopes no one beats her and steals her mattress.
No gloves for this obviously cold man.
This young man was beaten a couple of days before. He always ate in this position, keeping watch over all that is going on around him.
An oasis of support for a few moments in their life of uncertainity.
