The Hosanna Plan exists to reach the nation of Russia with the Gospel. Formerly called One Year for Jesus, this missionary program made up entirely of Russians, has been successfully operating in the Perm Region. Now, under the leadership of Bishop Edward Grabavenko of the Evangelical Church of Russia, 16 teams are on the road going village to village, person to person to share the Gospel. They minister with action and word, showing the love of Christ through acts of service, providing food and clothing when necessary. As they go, they are seeing God perform His Word in lives. The plan is that in the next eight years, should God give us that long, the whole nation of Russia will be reached with the Good News that Jesus longs to give every person eternal life if they believe on Him. The program was recently renamed The Hosanna Plan, in honor of a dedicated Russian pastor who was gunned down in front of his church, The Hosanna Church, in southern Russia. He had been instrumental in seeing churches planted in his area of Russia and now the Body of Christ there is stepping up the efforts to continue his work.
Giving a minimum of a year of their life, these committed young (18-62) Russian missionaries travel on this bus from village to village. Many times they not only ride on the bus but also sleep on the bus too. This group has been on the bus for two years and some have started their third year. Pastor Konstantin (front right) is now leading the program for the nation.
Not all of the dogs the missionaries face are this friendly. Not every missionary has a warm coat, hat and boots.
Sometimes they travel in vans. In some areas they will need snowmobiles, dog sleds and snow cats. Sometimes they drive as far as they can and then walk a mile or more to remote villages.
Walking when the road is too bad to drive is common. There are many small villages of 30-80 people where they have never heard about Jesus or seen a Bible. One such village, reached 5 years ago, now no longer exists because the people were elderly and they since have gone into eternity. What if the church had not gone?
This man gladly receives this Bible, the first he has ever seen!
